What is a Vampire Facial?

As we age, our bodies stop being able to repair and maintain themselves.   In the skin, this can be seen from the surface (fine lines, wrinkles, poor texture) as the internal structure (collagen & elastin) degrades.

PRP Skin Treatments (commonly referred to as Vampire Facials) involve harvesting the ‘serum portion’ of the blood (platelets) and microneedling to release the platelets into the skin, stimulating the skin to repair itself with new collagen and elastin.

Vampire Facials are beneficial for treatment of sun damaged skin, repairing scars, and restoring youthful skin.  The treatment can be done on any part of the body (not just the face!), including stretch marks and surgical scars.

Benefits of PRP Facial

The benefits of a Vampire Facial, also known as PRP Facial, include:

  • Enhanced Skin Texture and Tone: Improves the overall texture and tone of your skin.

  • Reduced Fine Lines and Wrinkles: Minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

  • Boosts Collagen Production: Stimulates collagen production for firmer, more youthful skin.

  • Natural Glow: Provides a natural, radiant glow to the skin.

  • Reduces Scars and Hyperpigmentation: Helps reduce the appearance of acne scars, surgical scars, and hyperpigmentation.

  • Minimally Invasive: Involves minimal downtime and is less invasive than surgical procedures.

  • Uses Your Own Blood: Reduces the risk of allergic reactions or infections since it uses your own blood.

  • Improved Skin Hydration: Enhances skin hydration and elasticity.

  • Long-Lasting Results: Offers long-lasting skin rejuvenation and maintenance.

The entire staff at Prestige Regenerative Medicine is thoughtful & helpful. I feel that I am receiving the best of care when I visit their office.

How do Vampire Facials work?

The Vampire Facial begins by drawing a small volume of blood from your arm and placing it in a medical centrifuge device. The centrifuge spins down the blood to separate the platelets and growth factors from the rest of the blood components.

When the process is complete, the resulting highly concentrated platelet rich plasma (PRP) is spread onto the skin.  Using microneedling, the fine sterile needles repeatedly pierce the top layer of skin (stratum corneum), producing microscopic “channels.”  These small wounds allow the platelet rich plasma to release, stimulating the formation of new collagen, elastin, and neovascularization in the dermis.

What equipment is used?

The quality of equipment is an important factor in determining results.  Prestige Regenerative Medicine is proud to offer state of the art technology.

For our medical centrifuge, we utilize the Magellan Autologous Concentration System, fully automated with a closed-loop design for maximum sterility and highest quality cellular concentrations.

For our microneedling equipment, we use the Rejuvapen NXT, the most advanced FDA cleared microneedling device.

Results

How many treatments are needed?

For patients treating acne scars, stretch marks, or sun damage, the standard recommendation is three treatments spaced 4 weeks apart.

When should I expect results?

Immediately after treatment, the skin will be red and tender, and it is important to avoid sun exposure.  Once the redness resides, your skin will look and feel brighter, more supple, and refreshed.  Though PRP is relatively new in the dermatology world, patients have seen amazing results.  It’s important to note that treatment results are not immediate – in fact, the long term collagen stimulation produced by vampire facials can continue over the course of six months to a year after treatment.

Things to Know About PRP Treatments

Platelet Counts and PRP Effectiveness

Because PRP depends on the healing power of your platelets, those with lower platelet counts will not have as pronounced an effect. This generally isn’t an issue unless you have extremely low platelet counts (a condition known as Thrombocytopenia).

Personalized and Safe PRP Therapy

Because PRP is made from your own blood, we cannot (and will not!) give your PRP to someone else (or someone else’s to you). Thus, there is no risk of acquiring an infectious disease from PRP therapy.

Avoid NSAIDs for Optimal Healing

Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) such as ibuprofen, aspirin, Naprosyn, indomethacin, meloxicam, piroxicam, etc., can interfere with the healing process initiated by PRP. These drugs should be avoided for 1 week before and 2-3 weeks after your PRP therapy.
